Glimpses

Sorry for the delay in updates.  I am working hard at getting my all new website up by July 5th.  With 2 sessions a day lately, I'm not really sure why I gave myself that deadline.  My husband now wants me to put "New curtains getting hung July 5th" on my homepage (since obviously the announced timeline thing works well to get me motivated!)  Anyway, thanks for being patient while I make the transition to an all new look.  I can't wait for you all to see.  For those of you awaiting ordering sessions, I know you are dying to see your images.  Here's a quick glimpse of a few recent sessions (I'm deliberately leaving out my most favorites....so I can show you in person).  Not sure why these look kind of "jaggedy" on here.  I'll have to look into it...later (:

When You Thought I wasn't Looking...

In honor of Father's Day, I want to share with you one of my favorite sayings.  It reminds us that our children learn much more from what we do than from what we say.  I have the awesome responsiblity of capturing this dynamic for families to cherish for generations.  Although some of my Daddy/child images are posed...most are not.  In fact, most of them were taken in the moment... When you thought I wasn't looking!

When you thought I wasn't looking, I saw you hang my first painting on the refrigerator, and I immediately wanted to paint another one.

When you thought I wasn't looking I saw you feed a stray cat, and I learned that it was good to be kind to animals.

When you thought I wasn't looking, I saw you make my favorite cake for me and I learned that the little things can be the special things in life.

When you thought I wasn't looking I heard you say a prayer, and I knew there is a God I could always talk to and I learned to trust in God.

When you thought I wasn't looking, I saw you make a meal and take it to a friend who was sick, and learned that we all have to help take care of each other.

When you thought I wasn't looking, I saw you give of your time and money to help people who had nothing and I learned that those who have something should give to those who don't.

When you thought I wasn't looking, I saw you take care of our house and everyone in it and I learned we have to take care of each other and family.

When you thought I wasn't looking, I saw how you handled your responsibilities, even when you didn't feel good and I learned that I would have to be responsible when I grow up.

When you thought I wasn't looking, I saw tears come from your eyes and I learned that sometimes things hurt, but it's all right to cry.

When you thought I wasn't looking, I saw that you cared and I wanted to be everything that I could be.

When you thought I wasn't looking, I learned most of life's lessons that I need to know to be a good and productive person when I grow up.

So Happy Father's Day to:

The Artist's Son

Last week I had the pleasure of meeting a family who "got me".  Meet Charlie... he's all of 6 weeks old and already a trendy little fella'.  His daddy is an artist and paints the coolest stuff.  It was hanging all over the house and we even got to use a piece for Charlie's portraits.  His parents are so sweet and we had a great time discussing my vision for different "poses" around the house for little Charlie.  However, he decided that he wanted to assert himself and in not-so-many words told us that he really prefered to stay clothed and NOT lay on bookshelves or in bowls on tables.  Oh well...I think we did OK (;  Check the little dude out...

Will You Remember...

So I've been trying to come up with a "tag line" for my business.  Something that describes what I do in a one liner.  I thought about "real life...real kids" or something along those lines but that's a little overused (and I don't want to copy any one else).  I have had many people comment on the music on my main website.  I have also had many clients tell me that I captured something in an image that was so special because they would have never thought to take a picture of it.  It's usually the little things that we see in our loved ones everyday but sort of take for granted.  Before we know it, 6 months have gone by and we don't even remember those things.  Before I ramble on and on and on and on, let me show you what I mean.

I could go on and on (and on and on) but it's late and I am still backlogged from our Florida trip.
Let me know what you think of my new "tag line".  Post a comment below.  So long for now.

It's a Small World...

It started with a phone call about a gift certificate.  Seems a really nice woman wanted to buy her friend a newborn session.  How sweet!  Turns out, this really nice woman is an OB and so is her friend.  They had received a birth announcement from one of their patients (who happens to be one of MY friends) and fell in love with my work (BLUSH! BLUSH!).  This is wonderful news since I have been looking for doctor's offices to display my maternity and newborn images.  Anyway....fast forward a couple days...turns out the woman who the gift certificate is for is the wife of a doctor that I worked with in the PICU at Cardinal Glennon.  Crazy how even in a city this size...it really is a small world.

By the way, the thing I remember most about this doctor was what a sincerely nice person he is.   That sounds cliche but if you met his wife and their son, you would know what I mean.  They truly are the NICEST people (and their son is adorable).  Here they are in their home a few days before her due date-I wish I looked that good at 39 weeks!!!
