Trendy Tot

Congratulations to Eyesmiles newest celebrity...sweet little Sienna in all her "trendiest" glory.  An image from her last session made the cover of Tot Trends Weekly.  It's an online magazine full of really cool boutique type items.  Here is her cover and also a couple other favorites from that day.

Eyesmiling

I am often asked by my friends, family and ex-coworkers if I miss being a nurse.  Well, first of all, I AM a nurse.  I will always be a nurse.  I'm just not working as a nurse right now.  Anyway, when I say, no I don't miss it, I am often asked: but don't you miss being able to really make a difference?

Ay, there's the rub....I really think I make a difference still.  And here's proof.  This little guy was very challenging to photograph.  He is the sweetest boy in the world (and a musical prodigy-you should hear him play the drumset) but getting pictures taken and giving eye contact are tough for him.  Mom really wanted some pictures though so I tried my best.  Most of the time, if I got him to look my way, he looked very uncomfortable and not "himself".  I left not thinking I had much of him (plenty of his new baby brother but not any real good ones of him).  So imagine how my heart melted when I saw this image.  My first thought wasn't about the lighting or the focus or the color balance...it was "Oh my gosh...his mom will be so happy." Michele I hope you are as moved by this image as I am.  This is THE definition of "eyesmiling."  I HEART this image!!  (:

And because I can't post anything lately without sneaking in a newborn shot somehow...here's his new baby brother.

That's all for now. (:

Brett Dennen

By now, most of you have noticed the new look of my website for 07.  I had fun looking through all of my recent work (most images are from late sumer and fall) and choosing the images for the new galleries.  Most of all, I was SUPER excited to have been granted permission from an amazing young artist to use his songs on my new website. Brett Dennen You may or may not know that using popular music on websites and slideshows is next to impossible (and illegal if not done through the proper channels) so how amazing is it that this up and coming artist said YES to little ol' me (:

A bit about Brett: He has a really cool name for one (wink wink).  Featured on the hit TV shows Grey's Anatomy and Men in Trees, his music and lyrics are haunting because they are so true.   He has the natural ability to look at and analyze the bigger picture and question the "routine" of things.  One of my favorite lines from any of his songs is this... "Then I curse my whiteness and I get so damned depressed.  In a world of suffering, why should I be so blessed?"  So true.  All of us are so blessed, in many ways that we take for granted every day.  However, these same blessings are reason to celebrate as in the song "Blessed" that you hear upon entering my new site.  The second song on my site is actually one of my very favorites, so stick around long enough to hear "I Will Be the One."

Another cool thing:  In exchange for permission to use his music, Brett requested I make a donation to The Mosaic Project  Their mission statement is as follows:

The Mosaic Project, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, works towards a peaceful future by reaching children in their formative years.

We unite young children of diverse backgrounds, provide them with essential skills to thrive in an increasingly diverse society, and empower them to strive for peace.

How cool is that!?

OK, so here are a couple screenshots from my new look....take a peek if you haven't already (: (link on the right sidebar)

To new beginnings....

A new year always brings out hope for new beginnings.  We clean out our closets, make resolutions, and promise ourselves that the new year will be a happier healthier, more prosperous one than the one before.  If there was ever a  spokesmodel for this sentiment, it's sweet little Miss Libby.  Her parents are so enamored with her (and who could blame them).  They have had life experiences that make them savor each precious moment with their daughter and I raise my glass to a beautiful new year for them and all of you.  May you each find joy in the little moments, and savor the time you spend with those you love.
