I have been a bad bad blogger. I'm blaming it on the fact that "build new blog" has been on my to do list since last July! I have grown tired of the image size restrictions on this blog. But too many exciting things have been happening for me to worry about blog issues. In December, I signed with Wonderful Machine. I now have the "backstage" support to grow the commercial side of my business. For years I've been joking about how I want "people". Well, now I've got my peeps (: Thanks WM!
The Opening Reception was a smashing success!! Thank you to all who came out to support me and Belas-Artes on the 18th. So sorry for the delay in an update. We have had so much positive feedback. It's truly overwhelming. We have had interest from universities, corporations, schools and community groups. Also, there will be a World Harmony Torch Run ceremony at the exhibit on Mother's Day. Come on down to the gallery around 10am (we'll be finished in time to take your Mom to brunch). I want to share some snapshots from the opening but first I want to share something I received from a woman of mixed race who was taken in by a loving white foster family who taught her about love and acceptance.
Laura's images show the greatest force each human has the capacity to experience: love. I see the potential for love...and "perfect love drives out fear." I am often asked by my friends, family and ex-coworkers if I miss being a nurse. Well, first of all, I AM a nurse. I will always be a nurse. I'm just not working as a nurse right now. Anyway, when I say, no I don't miss it, I am often asked: but don't you miss being able to really make a difference?
Ay, there's the rub....I really think I make a difference still. And here's proof. This little guy was very challenging to photograph. He is the sweetest boy in the world (and a musical prodigy-you should hear him play the drumset) but getting pictures taken and giving eye contact are tough for him. Mom really wanted some pictures though so I tried my best. Most of the time, if I got him to look my way, he looked very uncomfortable and not "himself". I left not thinking I had much of him (plenty of his new baby brother but not any real good ones of him). So imagine how my heart melted when I saw this image. My first thought wasn't about the lighting or the focus or the color balance...it was "Oh my gosh...his mom will be so happy." Michele I hope you are as moved by this image as I am. This is THE definition of "eyesmiling." I HEART this image!! (:
So I've been trying to come up with a "tag line" for my business. Something that describes what I do in a one liner. I thought about "real life...real kids" or something along those lines but that's a little overused (and I don't want to copy any one else). I have had many people comment on the music on my main website. I have also had many clients tell me that I captured something in an image that was so special because they would have never thought to take a picture of it. It's usually the little things that we see in our loved ones everyday but sort of take for granted. Before we know it, 6 months have gone by and we don't even remember those things. Before I ramble on and on and on and on, let me show you what I mean.

The little fuzz she had on her shoulders
Her first best friend
How his tiny body fit so nicely in your hands when you first brought him home
How she went up the stairs at 18 months
How safe she felt in the crook of your knees
When you still had only 2 children
When she was 5 and thought that sweater made her look 7 (and secretly you thought she looked 17)
Your "dainty " little girl with the pink toenails and skinned up knees
I could go on and on (and on and on) but it's late and I am still backlogged from our Florida trip.
